A travel post for you today! The past weekend myself and family spent a weekend in the North Yorkshire Dales, here is a little look into what we got up to. Caution, I did get a bit trigger happy with my camera, so be prepared for a photo-heavy post!
So, my mum had a big birthday a few weeks ago, and we decided to have a family trip to continue the celebrations. Settling on spending the weekend in a cottage, where we could eat, drink, relax and go for country walks, we came across the village of Litton.
Litton is a small little village within Littondale in the North Yorkshire Dales. Endless winding country roads and farmhouses make up the route once you get past Skipton. It is so picturesque, quaint and feels like you are just in the middle of nowhere, which you are! In total it takes about 1 hour 20 minutes to get from Leeds to Litton; give or take traffic and road conditions. In severe weather, Litton can be quite difficult to access, and it has recently been subjected to the results of flooding. Luckily for us, the floods had abated for our trip; and we had quite good weather considering.

Skipton:
Before reaching the final destination of Litton, we decided to stop at the beautiful market town of Skipton. I have previously written about Skipton so be sure to check that post out as well. Skipton is a beautiful market town and is known as the gateway to the North Yorkshire Dales. From the famous Skipton Castle, you can see the surrounding dales and the views are just beautiful!
Here are a few shots from Skipton castle:

A Weekend in the North Yorkshire Dales – where we stayed:
So, this was the best part of our trip, the Airbnb where we stayed for the three nights. If you are looking for somewhere to base yourself in the North Yorkshire Dales, for relaxing, taking in the scenery and going on long walks then this Nether Hesleden Farm and Pool House is the place to be.

Set within farm grounds and nestled between two other cottages, this cottage and pool house was amazing.
First of all, there is the cottage part of the property. This is a three-bedroom cottage, with two of the rooms being double. I forgot to take a picture of one of the rooms, so you will have to check my video at the bottom of this post to see it! There is a large kitchen area, a lounge and a small snug area on the downstairs of the property. All fully equipped with items you need, such as cooking items, tv, board games and a wood-burning fire etc. We did need to take our own provisions though, as the nearest shop is a Spar at a 20-minute drive away.

In the kitchen is a beautiful aga, very apt for a countryside cottage, however to our dismay this isn’t a working aga. Instead, there are two convection style ovens to do your cooking in, less glamourous than an aga, but totally does the job none the less.

Upstairs there is the three bedrooms, as well as a play area for children on the landing area. My 5-year-old niece loved this part and often sloped off to play with the mass of toys. There is also a very large bathroom, with a roll-top bath to boot.

All around the cottage are quirky ornaments, teapots and decorations. There were even quirky bathroom theme teapots in the bathroom area!
The Pool House:
Now, this is admittedly the best part of the whole cottage stay. Just to the side of the cottage is another building, which looks like it could have once been a barn. Inside here is a decent sized swimming pool; complete with changing facilities. I think this was my niece’s favourite part of the house, and she really didn’t want to get out of the pool when it was time for bed.
The owners also had left various inflatables to use when in the pool, and we added a few more to this, bringing a large turtle, mermaid tail and a Disney princess chair for my niece.

Above the pool is another living quarter, basically a one-bedroom apartment. This has more modern qualities than that of the main cottage and is complete with a four-poster bed and a small kitchen area. Within the pool house is a Sonos system too, so you can play your favourite music in the apartment, as well as in the pool.

Outside the pool house, there is a hot tub too. Perfect for relaxing on an evening under the starry sky. We were lucky for the most part with the weather, however, there was the odd mad dash back inside when the heavens decided to open.

The Grounds:
As this cottage is set within farmland, there is a lot of open space around the property. The neighbouring cottage has chickens, which are in the front of the property. There is also a field which guests can use, and has small football nets, a swing and even a converted stable into a games room. This is a great area for kids to have a runabout, as well as explore the treehouse.

Most mornings we woke up to find the neighbouring sheep exploring this little area too.
A Weekend in the North Yorkshire Dales – What we did:
As this was a family trip, we mainly spent time all together in the cottage relaxing. Each day we went on a little ramble around and to take in the country scenes. At one point we came up across a sheepdog, that wasn’t the friendliest in letting us past back to the cottage we hired.

On Sunday we headed to the local pub for lunch, the Queen’s Arms. This is a lovely little pub with two areas for drinking and dining. A proper traditional country pub; and locally owned too.

On an afternoon and evening, we would base ourselves over in the lovely pool house. This is where my niece had the most fun, ordering us in and out of the pool. Time really flies fast when you are having fun doesn’t it? Before we knew it our weekend away was coming to a close.

A really enjoyable weekend in the North Yorkshire Dales was had by all!
Would you stay in this cottage?

You were lucky to get this in before everything closed down. Love the look of the accommodation – that pool is wonderful!
We were very lucky to get this in before lockdown. I think the severity of it was just beginning to be known when we were there.
Such a beautiful house to stay…it would be lovely to have a staycation in!
