Using art in your home décor is a great way to express your style and make your house your home. I am teaming up with Poster Store in today’s post and sharing my tips and tricks for creating a gallery wall in your own home. Artwork can come in all different shapes, sizes and prints. But, before we get onto creating your own gallery wall, let’s find out exactly who are Poster Store.

Poster Store
Poster Store are a Swedish based company specialising in posters, prints, and frames with a Scandinavian design. They have a vast selection of posters of all different themes and categories to choose from to suit all tastes and design styles. So, you can create a truly unique gallery wall, tailor-made for your home with them. They release new poster collections every Tuesday, so there is always an array of styles to choose from on a week-to-week basis. Not only are they beautiful prints but they are super affordable too!
One of the best bits about Poster Store is their sustainability. All posters are sustainably produced on high-quality ecological paper. The paper and printing partner (Exacta Stockholm) are certified by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), Nordic Swan Ecolabel and the International Environment Guidelines IS 14001. This means that all of the wood used to create the posters are from responsibly managed forests, that meet the highest environmental and social standards. This is great as the environment isn’t being damaged and you can still have beautiful and inspiring artwork in your home without having a big dent in your carbon footprint on the environment.
Creating a Gallery Wall – Plan the Design
The first thing to consider is where you would like to display the artwork or create the gallery wall. Think about the wall space and what else is within this area. Will there be something in the way that would hide a large print or do you have a large wall that you can go crazy with posters on?
Part of this planning will also be taking measurements so that you can decide how many prints you can fit on the wall. Think of different combinations that would fit into the space or spaces you are looking to spruce up. Are you going to choose all the same size prints, or change these up? Will they be portrait or landscape or a mixture of both? These need considering before you make any purchases. A good way of planning out the design is to draw it out, or even take a photograph of the space. That way you can add the various sizes onto the image to see what would fit/look good in the space. I always like to create designs in décor in odd numbers too, I just think the designs stand out and look better this way. So, think of organising in 3,5 or 7 prints.

Choosing Your Theme
Now, there is a mass array of posters and prints to choose from for your gallery wall, which can get a bit overwhelming. The best thing to do is plan how you want the gallery wall to look. Think about your style and design, as well as what you already have as part of your décor.
Do you have a certain colour scheme that you want to follow or enhance when creating a gallery wall? If you have an eclectic style, then a “no theme” can be your theme. Sometimes a mismatched look just looks fabulous on a statement gallery wall.
Poster Store has a great range of prints and posters to choose from, so if you are looking for images from places like the Santorini posters I chose, then they have you covered. We followed the theme of ‘holidays’ in the choices we made, so not only do we have the Santorini prints, but also a wealth of beach themed prints too.

Choosing the Size of Prints
So, now that you have a theme or “no-theme” in mind, then it is time to make some purchases. Don’t forget at the end of this post I have a discount code for you to use to create your own gallery wall with Poster Store!
Keeping your plan and theme in mind, browse through the selection of prints and posters available. All of the prints come in various sizes, so you can really tailor the prints to match in with your designated space. Alongside the prints, you want to choose your frame, there are so many to choose from to suit your décor. Do you want full frames or do you want poster hangers…maybe a mix of both?
We are creating two gallery walls in our house, so we have chosen to have the Santorini prints in A3 size, and the beach theme prints in A4 sizes.

Creating a Gallery Wall
Once the prints have been ordered it is time to excitedly wait for them to arrive. Poster Store always sends prints and frames separately. They also arrive really quickly too! This way you can really play around with which print you want in which frame. Now, I received more prints than I did frames, so I am using a few older frames that I already have on my gallery wall. I like a gallery wall to have different frames in the mix, as this just gives the design another level. With the older frames we have, I also plan on sprucing them up with a colour wash. Think white wash painting technique but with a pop of colour. The colours of choice are muted tones of the colours in the print. I mean, I couldn’t miss out on some form of a DIY project with the gallery wall, could I?

Hanging Prints
Once all of the frames are prepped and ready to go, it is time to start placing the prints on the wall. You want to consider what type of hanging fixture you are going to use. A picture hook with nails or a sticky hanging strip?
Use some form of level to make sure they are straight. You could use a traditional spirit level, laser level or even an app on your phone to do so. Of course, you can do it by eye too.
Another good way to play about with the design of the gallery wall is using low tack tape, like washi tape. Not only will this give you an idea of the layout, but provides a template to attach the prints to the wall. All you have to do is carefully remove the tape once the prints are in place.
Once the prints are hung then the process of creating a gallery wall is complete. That is unless you want a rotating gallery wall, changing up the prints every few months. Poster Store has you covered with their designs!

Let me know what you think of these designs. Do you have any tips for creating a gallery wall?
