2021 has been and gone, and now 2022 is here. In today’s post, I thought I would show you a round-up of all the sewing projects of 2021 that were featured on the blog, as well as my sewing plans for 2022. Hopefully, this will give you a bit of inspiration to make your clothes this year!
Now, I know we are a few weeks into 2021, but Happy New Year! It feels like a lifetime ago since Christmas and New Year, doesn’t it? I’m a bit late with a round-up post, but better late than never, right?
Today I thought I would share all of the clothing sewing projects that I completed in 2021. Hopefully, to inspire you to give making your clothes a go. It wasn’t until I started looking into what I had made, that I released I have made quite a few clothing items during the past year…9 in total, plus a few more that I will hopefully finish in 2022!
The projects on this list vary in difficulty but are perfect for the newbie sewist looking to make their me-made wardrobe. All of the makes are using sewing patterns, all of which are from independent brands, with some makes free too!

So if that pique’s your interest, here are my sewing projects for 2021! There is a video version of this post too if you want to see how the various pieces of clothing fit/move.

Sewing Projects of 2021 – #1 – Stella Joggers
The first sewing project of 2021 was comfy joggers in the name of ‘Stella Joggers’ by Tilly and the Buttons. The pattern for this is in Tilly’s ‘Stretch’ book*, which features many different sewing projects for stretch style fabric.
These joggers are the first stretch project I have made, and they turned out fabulously. I still wear these for the days when I want to relax and slob about the house. They are super comfy to wear as well as sew up.

See how my Stella Joggers came together.
Sewing Project #2 – Stella Hoodie
Not only did I make joggers, but a comfy hoodie to go with it. The Tilly and the Buttons’ ‘Stretch’ book* strikes again with the matching ‘Stella Hoodie’. This was the second project of 2021, and one that I thought would be more difficult to complete, however, this was a breeze to sew. There is a bit of sewing skill needed with placing in the hood, but the instructions and pattern make it so easy to do.
If you are looking for an easy hoodie pattern, then I would highly recommend this one!

See how I handled the project here!
Sewing Project #3 – Juno Pyjamas
The third project of the year was another Tilly and Button’s pattern, and one that brings in comfort once again with these ‘Juno Pyjamas’. This sewing pattern is in the ‘Make it Simple’ book* by Tilly and the Buttons.
I adapted these pyjama bottoms, cropping them, which has made them perfect for the Spring/Summer seasons. Also, this fabric is just great, isn’t it?
Now, the best thing about this pattern is that you can adapt it to suit your needs, and you can also make them as shorts too. The top of the pyjamas is the ‘Tabitha’ t-shirt which features in the same book, with adaptions of the sleeve length.
Again, this pattern is for stretch material but is surprisingly easy to put together, and you can sew yourself up a pair within a day!

Here is the process of making my Juno Pyjamas!
Sewing Projects of 2021 #4 – Frankie Wrap Skirt
The fourth make of the year was the start of my love affair with the viscose material and making the beautiful Frankie Wrap Skirt by Made Label. The sewing project is an easy one, but one that learns you new skills and takes a bit of time to complete. The skirt is made up of French seams, which give a professional look, but is the reason why it is a bit more time-consuming.
The best bit about this sewing project (or one of them anyway), is the pattern is free! All you have to do is sign up for Made Label’s newsletter to gain access. They have a tonne of beautiful patterns, and another one features on my list later. I would highly recommend this pattern and sewing project as the results are stunning. Don’t you think?

Check out how I made my Frankie Wrap skirt here.
Sewing Project #5 – Safiya Trousers
The fifth project on this list is the wonderful Safiya Trousers by Tilly and The Buttons, featuring in the ‘Make it Simple’ book*. The thing I love about Tilly’s books is the sewing patterns in them are simple, and the garment at the end is so wearable.
These trousers have to be one of my most worn me-made items on this list. Like with some of the other makes, I slightly adapted these trousers, by making them a bit more cropped. The trousers were a bit shorter than I envisioned them to be, but it made them great for Spring/Summer.
The Safiya trousers are another easy make and can be sewn up in an afternoon. They have an elasticated waistband with a flat front, making this part slightly more complex, but still manageable.

See how my trousers were made here!
Sewing Project #6 – Bertha Cardigan
The sixth make of 2021 was another from Tilly and The Buttons Make it Simple book*. The Bertha cardigan is a simple batwing style cardigan, that if made in the right fabric gives a cottagecore vibe to it.
This is another easy make and makes adding in sleeves a doddle as they are raglan style. This is also a great cardigan for a spring/summer night where the temperature drops and you need a thin cover-up. The Bertha Cardigan is a quick make too and can be made up in an afternoon to a day.

Sewing Project #7 – Etoile Dress
We are onto the number seven sewing project of 2021 and it is a beautiful tea dress. The pattern is the Etoile dress by French Poetry.
This dress is slightly more complicated than some of the other makes on this list, as it includes different sewing elements including bust and waist darts as well as lots of buttonholes. However, once these are mastered, you have a beautiful tea dress, again perfect for Spring/Summer.
Once again, this make features viscose material, however, the dress can be made in other similar weight fabrics.

Check out how my Tea Dress came together.
Sewing Project #8 – Elliot Top
The eighth make of 2021 is another free sewing pattern with the Elliot top by Cool Stitches. This is a deep V neck, tie front cropped top.
This top is another fairly simple make, but does have lots of different sewing elements. That includes, creating tie channels and putting in elasticated puffball gathered sleeves. The final look of the top is beautiful, especially if you use a great fabric, like the gingham viscose I chose.
I found the cropped top a bit too cropped, and therefore decided to add a bit of extra length to it, which is still cropped. I must admit this has been one of my least worn due to the revealing nature to it, but I am hoping I can get some wear out of it this summer, with maybe some form of vest top underneath it.

See how my Elliot top turned out!
Sewing Project #9 – Dusky Rose Dress
I have saved the best (in my opinion) till last with this sewing project. Made label is featuring again with the beautiful sewing pattern ‘Dusky Rose’. This is a tie front maxi dress, and is just a stunning creation. Sometimes sewing patterns and sewing projects just don’t turn out how they are supposed to, but this one is a winner, and turns out even beter than imagned.
The best fabric to make the dress is viscose, as it has great drape and swish, which is why it is one of my favourite materials to work with. In Made Label fashion, all of the seams are French seams, which gives it that finished look. It also has a tie front that connects to the elasticated waist, and a graduated hemline (shorter at the front to the back).
I absolutely love this dress, and I must admit, I have had lots of compliments on it when wearing. So, if you are looking for a dress with a great effect, then this is the one for you.

Sewing Projects of 2021 Round Up
So, that concludes my sewing projects of 2021. I can’t believe I was able to make nine garments that are wearable and look great. Admittedly some I don’t wear as much as I thought I would, but then again some are more suited to the warmer months of the year.
I also have two other clothing projects to be finished. Sometimes you start a project and it doesn’t go to plan, and that is what happened with one of my dresses. However, I plan on re-looking at the dress and making it in time for Spring/Summer this year. I also have a pair of jeans that are very nearly finished too, and will hopefully be coming up on the blog very soon! These have been a labour of love, and I can’t wait to share them with you!
Which make is your favourite on the list? Let me know in the comments below.

Oh wow, all of these are absolutely gorgeous! It’s amazing that you can make your own clothes, you’re incredibly talented. I love the look of all of these but the joggers and pajamas look super comfy, I’d love to have something like that. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed reading this x
Aww, thank you so much! The sewing definitely improved as the year went on. I finished the year making a coat for my niece, but I didn’t document the process…who knows I might make myself one this year! The joggers and PJs are super comfortable!
Glad you enjoyed reading )

I love seeing your year and handmade clothing broken down into highlights and memories here! The Safiya Trousers look like something I could fall in love with wearing, but the cardigan and wrap skirt remain my two favorite of your picks.
Thanks for sharing and may your hands sew!
Oh, the Safiya trousers are perfect…I need to make another pair as I wear these so much in the warmer months! I have to say the wrap skirt is one of my favourites too, but I haven’t had a chance to wear it yet…hoping for warmer weather to be able to get the most out of it!
Glad you liked revisiting, and thank you for the kind comment!

Wow Aimsy, I am always in awe by your sewing skills! I have missed a couple of projects, so checking them out now! Love the bertha cardigan and everything is always made with such care!
Thank you! The cardigan is great, and I was so pleased I got a bargain on the fabric haha! You should see the state of the sewing space when making everything though…all the care goes into the garment and not keeping the place tidy
Glad you liked them!

You won’t regret learning…its a process but so worth it in the end!

The “ etoile dress” looks amazing! I would love to learn how to sew and make my own clothes! That must be an amazing feeling! loved your post x Penny / whatdidshetype.com
It is such a beautiful pattern, but a little complicated in parts. I’d love to make another version to iron out some of the techniques! Glad you like it. I would say you won’t have any regrets about learning…the only regret will be how much fabric you start to accumulate haha!

WOW you really did a lot this year! So impressive. I wish I had the craft gene. I soooo don’t have the craft gene LOL. I want a wardrobe that my mom had it is kind of blond orange wood/finish and I want to paint it black with chalk paint and swap out the pulls. But I am probably going to pay someone to do it I am too afraid of ruining it.

I didn’t realise how much I had until I round it all up. Hoping I can carry on making this year too…I have a few items planned!
Oh, that sounds like a lovely wardrobe. Sometimes the simplest of transformations can make a huge difference! Just be careful with chalk paint, it can be a nightmare to remove if you change your mind. Good luck with the transformation!

This is so cool, I love the 6th one. It’s so pretty, and it has my favorite color haha. You are so talented!
Glad you like them and thank you! Hopefully more to come this year!
